Raised in rural New Hampshire by parents John and Patricia, Katherine showed
an early talent for creativity and passion for art. With an artistic vein running through both sides of the family,
it was decided that Katherine should remain at home for her early education.
At 14 Katherine enrolled in the semi-private CBN Academy and began an impressive artistic as well as academic career.
Graduating in the top tier of her class and earning a full tuition scholarship for college Katherine's unique upbringing
proved to be an asset.
Katherine graduated Summa Cum Laude from Skidmore College with the honor of Valedictorian in 1999.
Her senior portfolio received Best In Show in the annual Tang Museum exhibition and was added to the school's permanent collection.
While attending college, Katherine studied under the well known Abstract-Expressionist David Miller.
Although Katherine's only non-traditional teacher, David's highly developed sensibility for color laid the foundation for the strong sense of light that is found in her work today.
After college, Katherine studied with the esteemed anatomist Michael Burbon
(author of Lessons from Michelangelo,
Watson-Guptill, 1986 and student of Robert Beverly Hale) at The Art Students League of New York. Previous members of the League include
William Merritt Chase, Thomas Eakins, Georgia O'Keeffe, Jackson Pollock and Roy Lichtenstein.
While at the League Katherine was introduced to classical master of drawing and Yale University graduate Deane Keller
and continued to study with him until his death in 2005. Deane was a treasure as an artist and a teacher and Katherine hopes to honor his memory by continuing his
example of excellence and diligence in draftsmanship and technique.
The most influential and masterful mentor in Katherine's development as an artist has been world renowned portrait artist
Nelson Shanks. Best known for his paintings of Princess Diana, Ronald Reagan,
William Jefferson Clinton, Luciano Pavarotti and his Holiness Pope John Paul II, among countless others, Nelson possesses an ability the level of which is seldom seen.
Katherine began studying under Nelson in 2004 at the Art Students League and at his request relocated to Philadelphia where he lives to continue
to study under his masterful guidance.

I consider it a privilege to be an artist and to continue in the tradition that was started by the ingenuity, dedication and gusto of those who have come before me. It is an honor to set about the task of capturing that which is living with canvas and pigments. I adore the equine subject matter and creating paintings that enrich the visual lives of my patrons.
